Lady Gaga and M.I.A. have made peace with each other. Wait – what? With all the feud drama between Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj lately, we had completely forgotten about the beef that started between the two in 2010 when the Sri Lankan superstar bashed Gaga in an interview with NME .
“She models herself on Grace Jones and Madonna, but the music sounds like 20-year-old Ibiza disco. She’s not progressive, but she’s a good mimic,” M.I.A. told NME VIA Rap-Up. She also added, “None of her music’s reflective of how weird she wants to be or thinks she is.”
OK, so those are pretty harsh criticisms from the “Paper Planes” and “Bad Girls” singer, but M.I.A.’s recent efforts to be friendly with Gaga show that they want to put their bad-blooded past behind them. On Wednesday (October 10) M.I.A. tweeted at Gaga: “If ur at Harrods today, come visit Assange at the Ecuador embassy across the st. I'm there. I'll bring TEA and CAKE.". Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, who has avoided being extradited to Sweden for months now, is currently exiled in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London after being granted political asylum.
Following the tweet, Gaga posted a photo of her with Assange, of whom M.I.A. has been a longtime supporter. While no photo surfaced of the two stars together, Maya tweeted that she was pleasantly (and enthusiastically) surprised that Gaga accepted her invitation. “MY MIND IS SERIOUSLY BLOWN! THNK U FOR THE VISIT! IM GLAD THAT WE CAN TURN ALL THIS BAD PRESS BEEF AROUND AND MAKE IT POSITIVE ??,” she said.
But that’s not the only evidence of peace-making. Later on Wednesday Gaga addressed to M.I.A.: “Perhaps you and i can make peace through our shared compassion for others. Cheers.”
